Year: 2022
Genre: Melodic Death Grind
Hailing from Essen, Germany, Sunshine brings us a healthy dose of melodeath and grindcore infused with each other. Their first demo was released last year and I'm glad the band reached out to me, as the music impressed me a lot.
For a first release, this demo is extremely coherent. The band clearly has their own sound already, which is impressive. On the first track "Deutsche und Geballer", we're greeted by some of the most badass riffage I've heard in a long time with some strong Carcass vibes. The track is a strong start for the demo, and from here, the musicianship only gets better.
Sunshine clearly knows how to spice up their music. Nothing feels monotonous even for a second. The guitars remain crushing, but still bring some serious versatility, while the drumming and basswork lay the foundation down for the entire demo. Vocally, Sunshine mostly utilises the ol' trustworthy gutturals and screams combo, which is done very well too.
This demo is definitely a bright start for Sunshine. The music on this release is something a band could base their entire future discography off of, and I hope they do that, since this is some seriously kickass melodeathgrind.
